Why this site exists
The Goethe-Zertifikat B1 is often the exam between someone and a job, a study place or a residence permit. The official practice material is good but limited, so goetheb1.com offers more full mock tests in the same format, with honest scoring for every module and feedback that shows what to fix.
How the mock tests are made
The texts, recordings and tasks are written for this site to the public exam specification: the same parts, task types, timing and number of questions as the real exam. The format is checked against the Goethe-Institut's Durchführungsbestimmungen. One official Goethe practice set (Übungssatz) is included with attribution, so you can compare.
How Schreiben is graded
Each of your three texts is sent to a large language model, which rates it on the four official criteria – Erfüllung, Kohärenz, Wortschatz and Strukturen – on the A–E bands of the Goethe marking sheet. The bands are turned into points like the official scale: Aufgaben 1 and 2 are worth 40 points each, Aufgabe 3 is worth 20. If task fulfilment is rated E, the task scores 0, as in the real exam.
You also get every mistake corrected and explained, suggestions for better phrasing and a corrected version of your own text. When a text is far too short or off topic, the corrected version is skipped, because there is too little to correct.
Where it can be wrong: this is a practice estimate, not an examiner's grade. A model can miss a mistake, flag a correct sentence or be stricter or kinder than a human examiner. Treat a result between 58 and 62 as borderline, and use the corrections to learn rather than to predict your exact score.
How Sprechen works here
Sprechen uses the official task types – planning together, presenting a topic, reacting to your partner – as a guided self-assessment with model phrases and a checklist. Nothing is recorded and there is no automatic score, because a fair speaking grade needs a listener.
Your data
Your answers and texts are private to your account and are never published. To grade Schreiben, your text is sent to the AI provider's interface, and nowhere else. The privacy policy explains what is stored and for how long.
