Teil 1: Five short texts
You hear five short recordings, such as station announcements, phone messages or radio news, and each one is played twice. For each text you answer two questions: one richtig/falsch statement and one multiple-choice question. That gives 10 questions, a third of the whole module.
Transkript (original)
– richtig
How to approach it
- Use the first play to get the situation, the second to check the detail.
- Times, platforms and numbers are favourite details – write them down while you listen.
Teil 2: A talk or guided tour
You hear one longer monologue, for example a guided tour, a short talk or information for visitors, and it is played only once. You answer five multiple-choice questions (a, b or c) in the order of the recording, so you cannot go back.
Transkript (original)
How to approach it
- Read all five questions before the recording starts – it is played only once.
- If you miss an answer, let it go and listen for the next question.
Teil 3: An everyday conversation
You hear one conversation between two people, played only once, and decide whether seven statements are richtig or falsch. The statements follow the conversation, and they often test who wants what and what the two people finally agree on.
How to approach it
- Note the names and who says what.
- Listen for changes of plan: doch nicht, lieber, dann machen wir es so.
Teil 4: A radio discussion
You hear a radio discussion with a presenter and two guests, played twice, and decide who says each of eight statements. It is the most demanding part, because people agree, disagree and change direction.
Transkript (original)
– Frau Berger
How to approach it
- Use the first play to match voices to names, the second to check each statement.
- A statement belongs to the person who means it, not to the one who only mentions the idea.
How Hören is scored
Hören has 30 questions. The official table turns correct answers into points out of 100, and 18 correct answers give the 60 points you need to pass. In the mock tests on goetheb1.com each recording has a play limit shown above the player, so you can practise under the same pressure.
