Examiners reward coherence – connected, logical text. Master these four:
Cause & effect
- weil (subordinate, verb to the end): Ich lerne Deutsch, weil ich in Wien studiere.
- deshalb (main clause, verb second): Ich studiere in Wien, deshalb lerne ich Deutsch.
Contrast
- obwohl (verb to the end): Ich gehe joggen, obwohl es regnet.
- trotzdem (verb second): Es regnet. Trotzdem gehe ich joggen.
Word order reminder
