How to write a B1 email (Schreiben Aufgabe 1)
Structure, useful phrases and word count for the informal email task.
Writing the informal email (Aufgabe 1)
Aufgabe 1 is an informal email (~80 words) in the du-Form. The grader checks four things: task fulfilment, coherence, vocabulary and grammar — so the safest path is to address all the Leitpunkte clearly.
A reliable structure
- Anrede: Liebe Anna, / Hallo Tom,
- Einleitung: thank, react, or refer to the situation — Vielen Dank für deine Einladung!
- Hauptteil: answer each Leitpunkt in 1–2 sentences. Use connectors: außerdem, deshalb, weil.
- Schluss + Gruß: Ich freue mich! Liebe Grüße, …
Useful phrases
- Ich würde gern … (I'd like to …)
- Könntest du mir sagen, ob …? (Could you tell me whether …?)
- Sollen wir zusammen …? (Shall we … together?)
Tips
- Aim for ~80 words — much shorter loses content points; much longer risks errors.
- Don't forget the greeting and sign-off (part of "task fulfilment").
